A:R:C Forever, a product by Identity Press, creates bespoke presentation boxes celebrating individual achievements in football, rugby and netball. Each piece is designed to honour a specific player. Names, teams, milestones and details are carefully configured before the product is made. It is a considered purchase and often a gift. The quality of the online experience matters.

When A:R:C approached morphsites, their WordPress project was already underway with another developer. The concept was strong. The ambition was clear. But the build was facing challenges.

The site required a fully custom presentation designer. Customers needed to define multiple elements of the product before checkout. That meant layered logic, conditional fields and dynamic updates across the page.

To achieve this, significant custom code had been introduced into WordPress.

The result was fragile:

Key functionality was incomplete
Parts of the codebase were difficult to extend or debug
Small changes risked unintended consequences
The project was drifting and confidence was low

This is not uncommon in custom WordPress development. WordPress is flexible, but once you move beyond standard themes and plugins into heavily customised functionality, the margin for error narrows quickly.

A:R:C needed a WordPress rescue project, not a cosmetic redesign.

Auditing before rebuilding

Our first step was not to start again.

We carried out a structured audit of the existing codebase to understand:

What could be retained
What needed to be refactored
Where the structural risks sat
How the presentation designer logic was implemented

In many WordPress rescue projects, the temptation is to scrap everything. That is rarely commercially sensible. Instead, we stabilise what is viable and rebuild only what requires it.

Our WordPress team reworked critical elements of the custom product designer, improved how data was handled across the configuration process and ensured that the checkout flow was reliable.

At the same time, we refined layout and usability where friction was appearing. Not decorative changes. Practical improvements that made configuration clearer and more intuitive.

The objective was simple: a stable, maintainable and extensible platform that could support the business properly.
